This one is for all dogs who have been brave or who are being brave now, in whatever way.
Please show one picture and explain in approx 50 words why your dog is in this category. Please tell us your dogs name too.

This is Beth following us rock climbing. She had a slipped disc aged three which left her spinal cord damaged. Within 24 hours of the op she was attempting to get on my lap, determined to do everything she possibly could. She never stopped trying until she died aged 12.

Bodie was found at around 4 months old stuck in a barbed wire fence. He weighed just 5 kilos so had probably been there a few days. He had a triple hip fracture and underwent 3 ops in 6 months. He still suffers and finds it awkward to sit or lie down, but he doesn't let it bother him.

This should be awarded jointly to Ellie and Darcy. Darcy is just inspirational. Ellie had GDV with splenic torsion aged 3, then immune-mediated thromocytopenia, aged 4. The treatment caused clots to form in her liver and heart, then during treatment they found that she had dilated cardiomyopathy! Despite this both are lovely, happy dogs at 9 today. Attachments:

Tess was in the local SPCA as part of a cruelty case. Two days after I brought her home she had 6 Great Dane puppies! A chronic wound required her tail to be amputated. Then in June, 2007 she had emergency surgery for gastric torsion and just barely survived. Last October she became lame in her right front leg. The decision about amputation was difficult because Tess also has bilateral hip arthritis. On October 19th her right front leg was removed. Ten days later I arrived home to find her standing on her own in the kitchen, and then she hopped outside and down the steps on her own and she hasn't stopped since. Her tumor was found to be a low grade soft tissue sarcoma so she was cured with surgery alone. I do not know how old Tess is, but it doesn't matter, she is simply amazing. Attachments:

PĂșca has multiple allergies and intolerances and her poor little body is ageing faster than she is, but nothing stops her, this is after she had an op on her leg to remove a growth. Sitting on lal' ratty in the Lakes ready to trundle along

Charlie had his eye removed, a day after landing in rescue, at 14 weeks old as a result of an injury untreated by his breeder. This picture was taken the day after his op. No-one told Charlie he only has one eye though & he charges around like a mad thing

Alfie, rescued after spending 18 months living in a garage, no social skills, arrived with agression. 12 months later, active dog, obediance events, agility, scent work. Also diagnosed with HD 2 months after arrival, looks like they had wanted to breed him.

Millie, who wouldn't be here without the inspiration of Darcy and her wonderful mom. Millie was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in November 2010 and without treatment would have 4-6 weeks to live. 4 months later, now on 3 legs she is leading a very happy, normal life.

Tekno poundie rescue staffie x now aged 5. Within 6 months of having him he ran into a post, breaking his nose, suffering head trauma and exploding neck discs. He was lucky to survive and had to learn to walk again. leaving him brain lesions and permanent nerve damage. Last year he got an unrelated inoperable brain tumour and has just completed radiotherapy - the average life expectancy is 1 year from here he may need a further op on spine but we don't know if he will be here long enough
